Stand Up For Yourself is a two-day comedy workshop for women who are ready to turn life’s toughest moments into laughter. Led by powerhouse comedian, writer and activist Mandy Nolan, this trauma-informed, feminist workshop helps participants transform stories of struggle, stigma and survival into stand-up gold. Learn joke writing, performance skills, and the radical art of taking your power back — one punchline at a time.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Through a well worn process, 12 women will engage in activities to develop trust, reflective listening, and performative engagement. The class will build confidence with small performance challenges to aid development toward a final 3-5 minute individual stand-up comedy performance.
Participants will learn how to brainstorm ideas, then refine them through joke writing and performance techniques into a personalised routine.

A notepad and pen and an open mind. Oh and some lunch and water.

That's totally understandable. This is a safe space for women to share their ideas and find the funny in them. Mandy is incredibly experienced and we promise you will get something out of this. We got you!

STAND-UP COMEDY BEGINNER'S WORKSHOP
Stand-Up Comedy is the toughest form of public speaking, but also the most rewarding. The Funny Coast Beginners Workshop is lead by the Funny Coast crew, all professional working Comedians; Mick Neven and Nicky Wilkinson, who have over 35 years of comedy performing experience between them.
If you've never performed Stand-Up before, they’ll take you from the couch to your first 5 min set in just 2 weekends! If you have performed Stand-Up before, they'll sharpen your act, help you to write new material & put you on the fast track to paid gigs.
The course covers joke writing, comedy styles, stagecraft, techniques to tackle your fear of public speaking and nervousness onstage, the business of comedy and more.
Whether you’d like to become a Comedian, a better public speaker, or simply tick Stand-up Comedy off your bucket list, this course will help you navigate the early pitfalls and avoid the simple mistakes made by so many comedy newbies.

If you're a total beginner, we'll help you write your first 5 minute set and get 'stage ready' to perform it at the graduation show. If you've done a few gigs, we'll help you sharpen your act and write some new material.
